Power banks on flights from Korea (2026 rules)
Updated October 2026
The No.1 item taken at Korean airport security isn't a weapon. It's the power bank in your checked bag.
The short version
- Carry-on only. Never pack a power bank in checked luggage.
- Max 2 per person (new since April 20, 2026 — an ICAO standard proposed by Korea).
- Up to 160Wh each. Over 100Wh usually needs airline approval; over 160Wh can't fly.
- No using or charging power banks on board. Plugging your phone into the seat USB is still fine.
How many Wh is my power bank?
Look at the label. If it only shows mAh, use: mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1000 = Wh.
| Label | About | OK to fly? |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000mAh | 37Wh | Yes |
| 20,000mAh | 74Wh | Yes |
| 27,000mAh | 100Wh | Yes |
| 30,000–43,000mAh | 111–160Wh | Ask your airline |
| over 43,000mAh | over 160Wh | No |
Pack it the safe way
- Tape over the ports or put each power bank in its own small plastic bag.
- Keep it in the bag at your seat, not deep in the overhead bin.
- If the label is worn off, security may refuse it — bring one with a readable label.
